Wales head into the match as favourites, and rightly so after a fantastic performance against Ireland in the quarter-finals. Led by impressive young skipper Sam Warburton, the Wales back row controlled the breakdown, providing quality ball for their in-form backline in the process. And here lies the problem for France. Their back row does not feature a fetcher in the mould of Warburton, or Wallabies ace David Pocock, which could see them struggle to build continuity. That said, the ball-carrying ability of Imanol Harinordoquy, Julien Bonnaire and Thierry Dusautoir cannot be discounted, especially if they get a roll as they did against England. But, essentially, this is about which France team turns up. Rumours of in-fighting and player unrest with coach Marc Lievremont have riddled France’s Rugby World Cup 2011 campaign, culminating in an embarrassing loss to Tonga. Still, they’ve managed to reach the semi-finals and it’d be a brave man to suggest they can’t go one, or two, games better. We're not sure what France will make of the absence of Rhys Priestland from the Wales line-up, with a shoulder injury. Priestland, arguably, has been the standout fly half of the tournament, but James Hook is an incredibly capable replacement.

Warburton’s effectiveness around the breakdown is demonstrated by the seven penalties he’s won in Wales’s five RWC 2011 matches. Conversely, France as a team, have managed to win just four forced penalties.
Key match-up: Mike Phillips v Dimitri Yachvili.
Their playing styles are vastly different, but Phillips and Yachvili will both have a huge say on the outcome of Saturday’s match. At 190cm and 100kg, Phillips plays much like a ninth forward and brings a physicality that few other scrum halves in the world can match. Phillips loves to work around the fringes, particularly the blindside, as demonstrated by his game-breaking five-pointer against Ireland. Yachvili, on the other hand, is a far more traditional No.9, preferring to kick for territory and drive his forwards close to the ruck. He doesn’t pose a significant attacking threat, but his ability to control the game through tactical kicking could hurt Wales.
